Since 1978, DCSI has marketed and manufactured the highly successful,
field-proven Two-Way Automatic Communication System (TWACS®), a power
line communication technology which provides unique capabilities that
are well suited for Automatic Meter Reading (AMR), two-way load
management, Distribution Automation and other value-added services.
Unlike conventional power line carrier systems, which superimpose a
high frequency on the power lines, TWACS works by modulating the voltage
waveform at the zero-crossing point. With this system, any network that
reliably carries 50Hz or 60Hz power can also reliably carry data. There
is no need for repeaters, blocking devices, or for special conditioning
or maintenance of the utility's distribution feeders.
